Google Gears not working in FireFox 3

I had a problem today that google gears didn’t work on my work laptop on Firefox 3. When I tried to set up Offline Gmail Firefox hung. Strange because the same combination does work op my home laptop. So I started searching and came up on the support site from Mozilla. Here someone told that he used the Aero Fox theme.

Since I used the same theme, I tried the Firefox default theme and that turned out to be the solution. Now FireFox and Gears work perfectly together and I can use Gmail offline and WordPress Turbo on my work laptop. I love it!

IEtester – A working alternative to IECollection

In my recent post I talked about IECollection. A great tool but in the end it gave me a major problem: Dropdownlists were marked as POP-ups and could not be activated. This error occured in IE7 & IE8 of IECollection. A colleague of mine came up with an other great tool, which -as far as I’ve seen – doesn’t have this problem.
This piece of software is called IETester and can be found here: http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage.
It doesn’t have all the IE versions but only the ‘latest’ builds. IETester goes back to version 5.5 which I belive almost no-one uses anymore as his default browser.
I think a combination of IECollection and IETester would be an ultimate dream. Both are regularly updated, so I think we’ll reach the ultimate dream in the near future. I hope….

Internet Explorer Collection – Run multiple IE versions next to to each other

One thing about developing websites or web applications is the everlasting aim that your site will work always, no matter with which browser your website is viewed. Standards are the key to make this possible. But the problem is that not all browsers (in fact almost none) completely render your site the way you want it.
Will the site work in all three major versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, And Google’s Chrome that is always a big question. The best way to test this is see it for yourself and install all the browsers and test the compatibility of you designed website in all those browsers.
The buggy part is that, when using default settings it is not possible to have multiple versions of internet explorer installed on your system. But there is a solution.
Internet Explorer Collection is an application which makes it possible to install all the versions of Internet Explorer on one system.
When you run Windows XP, you can run Internet Explorer 1.5. to version 8.0 all at the same time!
So go over to their website and install Internet Explorer Collection. You’ll be stunned! at least I am

In the past week I’ve changed my site somewhat. The current theme is the iNove wordpress theme. It’s clean and I think it looks great. I’ve added a few mobility links and will continue to add more great mobility links on my site.

Also on the top of this page in the menu I’ve added two pages: My Twitter and My Pictures.
Since twitter is a micro-blog I think my tweets also fit great in my blog. The page My Pictures displays all my public available Flickr Sets and pictures. When I upload pictures with my T-Mobile G1, those pictures are automatically added to Flickr and also to my site via this great WordPress extension.

I will in the near future also add my memberships and awards. A good place for my MCTS:Moss awards
